"The Medicine Bag"
At the conclusion of a year long Shamanic Healing apprenticeship, I received a handcrafted "Medicine Bag" which to this day contains a variety of crystals, stones, totems and other items that I personally consider 'medicine' for my life and for use in doing teaching and healing work with/for others. On the wall just inside the entrance of my healing room / office there hangs a "medicine wheel" which also incorporates a small healing pouch. The main wall in my healing room showcases a large dream catcher/dream teacher. A small healing pouch is part of this piece as well.
"Personal medicine bags are powerful, sacred objects that have long been part of American Indians' private accouterments. Medicine bags are works in progress. You can add or subtract from the unique personal items they contain throughout one's life, depending upon events. It is not the amount but the energy that counts in what is added to the bag. Invested with prayers and healing energies, they often retain their power for a lifetime or beyond."
This page is an electronic 'medicine bag' and is considered a modern day extention of those more traditional sacred items. This page contains monthly updates and additional ideas for living life more fully. Each month a crystal or stone and/or animal totem will be highlighted. Effective May 24, 2011 and periodically thereafter older entries will be moved to the "Medicine Bag Archives". "Favorite Links" and other holistic tidbits will be added with regularity.

EAGLE as Power Totem

..."More than any other bird, the eagle is the closest thing you'll get to an angel, in terms of least of the traditional symbolism of both entities. In describing angels, there's a passage at the beginning of the book of Ezekiel, which goes: 'They four... had the face of an eagle ... and their wings were stretched upward: two wings of stretched upward; two wings of every one were joined one to another, and two covered their bodies ... wither the spirit was to go, they went.' As a messenger from the Gods, the eagle is the most visible and one of the most important emissaries, and it is essential that we manage to preserve this rare and beautiful bird." pgs 406, 409
